Walk outside feel a change of pressure
There's a storm coming but there's no one to tell
The birds have all flown to shelter
I think I'm falling under a winter spell
The sheet of rain is coming closer
I think my car will make it home
So I hopped in my car and I started driving
Only twenty-six miles to go
In the rain we are tested as we're soaked down to the bone
It's a game to find our essence
As we're stranded from our homes
Love the earth learn to respect it like our ancestors before
When the machines we rely on betray us
gotta muster up the will to use my legs
So I take a deep breath in anticipation
Stumble out the door and I'm on my way
Run, run, run....
In the rain we are tested as we're soaked down to the bone
It's a game to find our essence
As we're stranded from our homes
Love the earth learn to respect it like our ancestors before

This is a way to reconnect
A discipline made to slow you down
And raise awareness
Designed to answer questions most neglect
Due to distance from the natural world we've become careless
I'm inclined to rant
Wake up to find the world we got
Is crippling under people tearing it apart
And bickering over who can make the biggest bombs
And how to separate us from the earth we trod upon
To justify consumer brainwash
To feed us to the economic engine
As if we were the oil that we kill each other over
But at least we have the honor we're defending

Notes from the Amazon

Took the clothes from my back
When I learned somebody needed them more than me
Like I'd never seen poverty
And if I could they'd have a whole rack
If I could convince people in my country
That we're a human family
Strings hum under the Ceiba tree
This home has been too good to me
The straw roof always beaten by the rain
When hearts are spilled you can't remove the stains
Leaving children behind once you've gained their trust
It's a million miles of heartache, and yet we must
Today was silent like the river at dusk
When hearts are spilled your ego gathers dust
The smell of exhaust on the river
I'm exhausted on the river
It's tired water, after fire water
The morning birds sing strong against the night
And we begin to welcome the light
Well some aren't meant to stay
Sometimes it's better to get back to your roots
What a wasted visit
because maybe this mud's not meant for your boots
Strings hum under the Ceiba tree
This home has been too good to me
The straw roof always beaten by the rain
When hearts are spilled you can't remove the stains
But what do you know
What goes up must come down
Right back around to our good old home town
But are they bothered by it anyhow
By leaving children behind once you've gained their trust
Ten million miles of heartache, and yet we must
Today was silent like the river at dusk
(today my river went dry)
When hearts are spilled your ego gathers dust
(I spilled my heart and mind)

I find I'm changing
Worlds rearranging and I'm a wreck
Hands closed possessions keep us a mess
As we tend to the things that we possess
Won't you tell me what's inside my head
I'll follow your orders with my face against the wall
Our roots are breaking
My heart is aching for you to restore
The need for saving
The ground that gave us everything
What a wonderful world we live in
You can kill a tree for paper
And practice drawing trees
What a useful planet we've acquired
Pump its oil so you can drive around
And trade the air you breathe
Nature's falling apart the rivers are getting dark
Things that never were supposed to be
(we're looking but we're blinded by it all)
Our roots are breaking
My heart is aching for you to restore
The need for saving
The ground that gave us everything
Ooh, everything
Ooh we will lose, everything

Went on a trip to a milder river
Less company this time however
With people I thought that I would know better
Without the itinerary filter
Well it’s definitely not the amazon
But opened my eyes to just as fruitful
The trees and crayfish in all their splendor
You'd never know they lived here forever
The moment I decided what the human family needs
To patch the wounds we made our mother bleed
When a much of mental prisoners release themselves at once
There’s bound to be some baggage too heavy to cut clean
Took a chance at chance creek, and I saw contorted thoughts of me
And the nature of harmony
The moment I decided what the human family needs
Let a river carry you to banks more meant to be
Rather than sorting damage from this tunnel-visioned spree

I scraped my knees, Burned my feet
Let the traffic fly by, With no caution signs
Where children are trying to dream
Before the brook dried; Now the brook's dried
And over passing time, That wise oak died,
and my rope-swing crashed to the ground
Then the shovels came down, With a deafening sound
And all the life beneath the ground, Sacrificed to a bigger town
Well I hope you have found a place to quiet down
Well at least we're both bound to some common ground
I'd like you to know, I just wanna say
I'm glad you're at home, But that's where I played
But you're inside much more than for rainy days
After the shovels came down, Through the deafening sound
And all the life beneath the ground, Sacrificed for the bigger town
Well I hope you're around, When the timer winds down
I hope your head's clear of clouds to see our common ground
(instrumental)
Here I crouch down, Salute to you now
I cry for your wounds, We all came from you
And still we stand here with a price nailed to you, Why?
When the concrete pours down, My memories are drowned
Like the life beneath the ground, Sacrificed to a bigger town
That's entitled and loud as the last tree falls
On our common ground
